Last Exile
Episode 26
At the start, this seemed like a neat little show from Gonzo with a lot of style. It follows the adventures of a young brother and sister "vanship"-pilot team. They are basically a FedEx team, in a Myazaki style airship, but their deliveries are to large combat airships in the middle of battle. Yup, this show is neat. By the 5th episode, you already see that the show has everything you could ask for plot-wise, as well as pure aerial combat spectacles with bravery and courage. It's a very fast moving series, with lots of action, great animation, attention to detail and wonderful CG.
From about episode 11 and on, this show goes from pure fun to an amazing, old-school adventure. There are just so many cool designs and so much stuff going on in the story. By the end of this series, you know you've seen something special. So add this to the must watch and rewatch list for all you sci-fi fans. Last Exile brings together elements from classics such as Studio Ghibli's Nausicaa, Blue Sub #6, Captian Harlock, Yamato and Gainax's Nadia combined with Frank Herbert's Dune. All in all, this is one of the all time greats with an amazing and meaningful conclusion.
